Motorcycle clubs from all over Europe may have gathered in Belgium, but the day belonged to Harley Davidson lovers.

LAST weekend saw the annual Harley Davidson Rally in Leopoldsburg, where around 2,000 bikers gathered to parade around the cordoned off town centre, watched by crowds of fellow bikers and local residents.

On Saturday, the rally headed to Antwerp, Eindhoven, Aachen and Maastrict before returning to Belgium. Sunday morning started with a ‘bikers breakfast’ before people made their way home.

The event appeared to be well organised and the police patrolled the event but kept their presence low profile.

According to residents, security was a concern this year after a fatal stabbing at the last event, however the Hells Angels made it through and settled into a bar. Further up the road the neo-Nazi Blood and Honour followers settled into another bar.

Although motorcycle clubs from all over Europe were present, the day belonged to the many individual Harley lovers who came to watch and ride.

The average age would have been around 40 and many brought their families. The air was thick with exhaust fumes and testosterone, the bars were full and making comments about the passing bikes seemed to be the main activity.

The campsite, which also hosted concerts till the early hours, had been moved a little further away from the town giving the citizens the chance of a quiet night, away from the rich, deep roaring of this most iconic of motorcycles.
